Doha, August 21 (QNA) – HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov co-chaired the inaugural meeting of the Coordination Council for the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, held Thursday in Doha.
HE the Prime Minister welcomed his Uzbek counterpart and conveyed HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s wishes for the success of the Council in advancing Qatar-Uzbekistan relations. He stressed that ties between the two nations have evolved into a strategic partnership, rooted in more than two decades of political relations and strengthened by the 2024 Agreement on the Establishment of the Bilateral Strategic Partnership.
His Excellency underlined the partnership’s role in expanding political consultation, trade, investment, and energy cooperation, noting that trade exchange reached USD 1.8 million in 2024, with ambitions for further growth. He highlighted the signing of several agreements and MoUs, including a new MoU on investment cooperation between Qatar Mining Company and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology.
Both sides emphasized deepening cooperation across multiple areas, including economic development, cultural exchange, youth and sports, transport connectivity, and climate action. They agreed to enhance coordination within international organizations and explore mutual support in global forums.
The meeting welcomed major upcoming events, including the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand (Oct. 30–Nov. 13, 2025), the second GCC-Central Asia Summit in Uzbekistan in 2026, and Doha hosting the Second World Social Summit (Nov. 4–6, 2025). The Uzbek side also welcomed Qatar’s candidacy to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through high-level exchanges and regular follow-up on the Council’s decisions. The second meeting of the Coordination Council will take place in Samarkand next year.
The Coordination Council, established under the 2024 Strategic Partnership Agreement, serves as a key platform to implement high-level agreements and explore new cooperation opportunities in political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields.
