Kiev, August 25, 2025 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Monday that Ukrainian and U.S. teams will meet this week to discuss prospects for peace negotiations with Russia.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Zelensky said he would hold talks later in the day with U.S. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg.
“It seems to me we will have a basic plan for security guarantees. Details still need time and more work is required,” Zelensky noted. “After that, I want to understand from the American side whether the Russians are ready for a meeting.”
The announcement follows comments by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this month, stating efforts are underway to arrange a meeting between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of clear guarantees and coordination with allies before any direct negotiations take place, underscoring Ukraine’s stance on achieving a sustainable peace.
