Doha, August 28 (QNA) – The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) concluded its annual summer campaign to raise awareness among workers, which began on July 7 under the slogan “Know the Law… Protect Your Rights.” The campaign was held in partnership with several government entities, non-governmental organizations, and the International Labour Organization (ILO), reaching more than 2,500 workers across Qatar.
The initiative aimed to enhance understanding of labor laws among both workers and employers, while providing guidance on legal assistance to prevent violations and support the effectiveness of Qatar’s labor system.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the NHRC, stressed that this year’s campaign focused on educating workers about legal procedures and mechanisms that protect their rights. She reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to safeguarding human rights, addressing challenges, and ensuring vulnerable groups remain a priority.
Her Excellency praised Qatar’s recent legislative reforms, particularly those enabling workers to freely change employers, describing them as part of a comprehensive approach that places workers’ rights at the center of national policies. She also emphasized the NHRC’s efforts to stay close to communities through dedicated offices that improve accessibility, receive complaints, and respond effectively to workers’ concerns.
Partners from the Ministries of Labour, Interior, Social Development and Family, and Public Health, along with the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund and civil society institutions, were commended for their role in the campaign’s success. The NHRC also expressed appreciation to international partners, including the ILO, IOM, and Qatar Red Crescent Society.
Officials from these institutions highlighted the importance of ensuring laws reach workers in their workplaces and accommodations, underlining that awareness is key to reducing violations and fostering balanced labor relations. They also stressed that protecting workers’ rights is a collective responsibility requiring cooperation between the state, employers, civil society, and international organizations.
The campaign concluded with the screening of a documentary film showcasing its activities, followed by an honoring ceremony recognizing partners who contributed to its success.
