KABUL, Aug. 31– The Afghan Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development announced the completion of 160 infrastructure projects in southern Kandahar province, aimed at strengthening agricultural output and improving rural livelihoods.
Valued at more than 275 million afghani (approximately 3.96 million U.S. dollars), the projects were implemented on the outskirts of Maiwand district. According to the ministry, the initiatives focused on building and rehabilitating essential infrastructure, including irrigation canals, small dams, culverts, and rural roads.
Officials said the completed works will enhance water management, support farmers in expanding crop production, and improve transportation links for local communities. The ministry emphasized that these developments are expected to increase agricultural productivity while creating new opportunities for trade and market access in remote areas.
The projects were funded through the government’s rural development programs, with technical teams working in cooperation with local councils to ensure community participation and sustainability. Authorities highlighted that such initiatives are a critical part of nationwide efforts to boost resilience in rural regions, many of which have suffered from years of conflict and limited infrastructure.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continue expanding development activities across Afghanistan, with a focus on agriculture, water management, and connectivity in underserved areas
