Doha – The Embassy of China in Qatar, represented by Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Wang Ying, hosted a press briefing highlighting the deepening ties between China and Qatar, China’s historic contributions to global peace, and its commitment to international cooperation.

Ms. Wang expressed gratitude to media representatives for their active coverage of China, emphasizing the Embassy’s dedication to fostering communication and public understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple fields.

On September 3, China commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. President Xi Jinping highlighted the Chinese people’s unified struggle against Japanese aggression, marking China’s first complete victory against foreign invasion in modern history. The Chinese resistance played a crucial role in the World Anti-Fascist War, contributing significantly to the defense of human civilization and world peace.

The Chinese resistance, beginning with the September 18th Incident in 1931 and escalating into full-scale war in 1937, was marked by immense sacrifice. More than 35 million Chinese military and civilian casualties were incurred, alongside extensive economic losses. The war’s importance is reflected in its early start, its 14-year duration, the containment of over two-thirds of Japan’s invading forces, and the unprecedented human and material sacrifices.

Ms. Wang emphasized that commemorating this history is not about perpetuating hatred but about honoring heroes, cherishing peace, and learning lessons for a safer future. Today, humanity faces choices between peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, and cooperation or zero-sum competition. History warns that nations must treat each other as equals, coexist peacefully, and work together to eliminate the root causes of conflict.

China remains committed to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development. Drawing on its historical experiences of foreign invasion and colonial oppression, China continues to pursue a defensive national defense policy, opposes hegemonism and power politics, and rejects interference in the internal affairs of other nations. Initiatives such as the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) promote sovereignty, multilateralism, and people-centered global solutions, supporting a more just and equitable international system.

Highlighting its role as a global economic and technological leader, Ms. Wang noted China’s steady growth, innovations in quantum computing and AI, and international cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative, advancing modernization and inclusive development. China’s high-quality development contributes to global economic stability, offering new opportunities for all nations. She also highlighted the vibrant cultural exchanges, people-to-people cooperation, and educational partnerships that continue to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.

China also strongly defends the outcomes of World War II and supports a rules-based international system. It upholds the UN-centered international order, international law, and the one-China principle, reaffirmed by UN Resolution 2758. The Qatari government’s steadfast support for China’s sovereignty is highly appreciated.

On bilateral relations, Ms. Wang praised the 11-year China-Qatar strategic partnership, noting record trade growth from USD 10.6 billion in 2014 to USD 24.22 billion in 2024. Both nations have consistently supported each other on core interests and shared development goals, with China serving as Qatar’s largest trading partner since 2020.

In addressing regional challenges, particularly the Gaza conflict, China and Qatar have promoted peace, facilitated ceasefires, and delivered humanitarian aid, advocating a two-state solution and opposing external interference. China remains a reliable partner of Middle Eastern countries, committed to justice, peace, and development.

Ms. Wang concluded by reaffirming China’s resolve to work with Qatar in strengthening strategic cooperation, promoting a community with a shared future for humanity, upholding international fairness, advancing national prosperity, and benefiting the peoples of both nations. She called for continued collaboration in technology, energy, infrastructure, and cultural projects, highlighting that such joint efforts will further consolidate a mutually beneficial partnership for decades to come.
