Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday offered U.S. President Donald Trump a one-year extension of the last remaining treaty limiting the nuclear arsenals of both countries, while negotiations continue on its future.

Russia and the United States possess the largest stockpiles of nuclear weapons globally. The New START accord, which restricts the number of strategic warheads and delivery systems aimed at military, economic, and political centers, is set to expire on February 5.
