MOSCOW/KYIV, Oct. 3 Russian forces carried out large-scale overnight strikes against Ukraine’s energy and military-industrial facilities, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The operation involved long-range precision weapons launched from land, sea and air, as well as combat drones. Ukrainian officials reported that 381 combat and decoy drones, along with 35 missiles, were used during the assault, with critical energy infrastructure in Kharkiv and Poltava regions heavily affected.
Ukraine’s state gas company Naftogaz confirmed its production facilities in both regions were hit. Private energy firm DTEK also reported halting operations at several gas production sites in Poltava due to the damage.
The Ukrainian Energy Ministry said rescue and repair crews are working to restore services and stabilize affected areas. The strikes highlight the growing pressure on Ukraine’s energy network as winter approaches and come amid ongoing Russian efforts to degrade the country’s defense and industrial capacity.
Kyiv has condemned the attacks, warning of severe humanitarian consequences if energy disruptions intensify, while Moscow insists its strikes are aimed at military-linked infrastructure.
