Doha, October 6 (QNA) — The State of Qatar took part in the 29th Joint Ministerial Meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU), held today in Kuwait. The Qatari delegation was headed by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, who reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to enhancing dialogue and partnership with regional and international allies.
In his address, HE Al Muraikhi emphasized that GCC–EU relations represent a strong model of long-term cooperation built over decades, reflecting a mutual commitment to political dialogue, security coordination, counterterrorism efforts, and cultural and energy collaboration. He noted that the Joint Ministerial Council serves as a vital platform for deepening cooperation and promoting a shared vision for peace, stability, and sustainable development across both regions.
His Excellency welcomed the launch of negotiations for a Strategic Partnership Agreement between the GCC and the EU, describing it as a qualitative step toward establishing institutional and balanced relations based on mutual interests, supporting collective security and prosperity.
HE Al Muraikhi also thanked GCC member states, the EU, and its countries for their solidarity with Qatar and the region against the Israeli aggression launched on September 9, denouncing it as a grave violation of sovereignty and international law, and stressing the need for unified global action.
He commended the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the “New York Declaration” on implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state — a move reflecting broad global support for Palestinian rights. His Excellency expressed appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic for their pivotal role in facilitating the declaration’s adoption.
He further welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by several EU members, stressing that peace cannot be achieved through continued violence, and reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and legitimate aspirations for statehood.
