ISTANBUL, October 8 (AA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday reaffirmed Türkiye’s firm commitment to the creation of an independent Palestinian state, saying it “will definitely be established” on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Speaking at the Justice and Development (AK) Party’s parliamentary group meeting in Ankara, President Erdogan emphasized that regional peace cannot be achieved by placing all responsibility on Palestinians or Hamas. “Peace is not a one-winged bird. Expecting Palestinians alone to carry this burden is neither fair nor realistic,” he said.
The president condemned the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, calling for an immediate halt. “If peace is truly desired, Israel’s aggression must stop without delay,” he said, stressing that the international community must uphold justice and human rights.
Erdogan strongly criticized Israel’s actions, saying they “have surpassed even Hitler in brutality,” accusing the Israeli government of turning Gaza into “a massive pile of rubble” through starvation and destruction. Despite this, he said, “the people of Gaza have not surrendered their will to resist.”
Highlighting Türkiye’s multi-dimensional approach to the crisis, Erdogan said Ankara is pursuing humanitarian assistance, diplomatic initiatives, trade measures, and international recognition of Palestinian statehood. He underscored that a ceasefire and just peace remain “the most reasonable choices” for all parties involved.
Referring to peace talks in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, he expressed hope for positive results and reaffirmed Türkiye’s steadfast solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“We will never leave our Palestinian brothers alone,” Erdogan said, adding that Hamas had shown openness to peace efforts, including recent U.S. initiatives.
Türkiye, he concluded, will continue advocating for justice, peace, and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation.
