SUVA, October 8 (Xinhua) – The Chinese Navy hospital ship Silk Road Ark, participating in “Mission Harmony-2025,” successfully concluded a seven-day friendly visit and humanitarian medical service to Fiji on Wednesday and has now set sail for Tonga.
During its stay, the ship provided medical treatment to 3,330 patients, performed 426 surgeries, and conducted 2,531 auxiliary examinations and tests, delivering substantial healthcare support to local communities.
Fiji’s Minister for Defense and Veterans Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, praised the mission, noting that the Silk Road Ark has offered tangible benefits to the Fijian people and serves as a symbol of care, goodwill, and international friendship.
Before departing, the hospital ship participated in a joint maritime search and rescue drill with the Fiji Navy, focusing on maritime transfer, emergency treatment, and coordinated rescue operations.
Following the drill, the Silk Road Ark continued its regional humanitarian mission, heading to Tonga to provide similar medical and naval cooperation services.
This marks the third visit of a Chinese naval hospital ship to Fiji under the “Mission Harmony” initiative and the first occasion for a joint Chinese-Fijian naval search and rescue exercise, reinforcing bilateral ties and regional humanitarian collaboration.
The mission underscores China’s commitment to strengthening medical assistance, naval cooperation, and people-to-people friendship in the Pacific region.
