Huawei Qatar Recognizes Exceptional Talent at Huawei ICT Competition 2023

Qatar, Doha, April 4th, 2024 – In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Huawei, a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT), hosted an award ceremony in Qatar to honor the winners of the national and regional Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 for the Middle East and Central Asia (ME & CA). Attended by esteemed representatives from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, as well as deans and professors from participating universities, the event celebrated the outstanding achievements of Qatar’s brightest talents in the field of ICT.
The seventh edition of Huawei’s flagship ICT talent development initiative witnessed unprecedented participation, marking a significant milestone since its inception in 2017. Over 27,500 students from more than 600 universities across 21 countries in the Middle East and Central Asia engaged in the competition, showcasing their skills and innovative prowess.
Among the esteemed institutions participating in this edition were Qatar University, University of Doha for Science and Technology, Community College of Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and Lusail University. The presence of representatives from these universities at the ceremony underscored their commitment to nurturing and empowering their students in the realm of ICT.
The primary objectives of the ICT Competition are to foster innovation among university students, elevate their competencies, and advance their skill sets. Through this initiative, Huawei remains committed to nurturing the next generation of ICT professionals, equipping them with the tools and knowledge essential for success in the digital age.
The first place in the Regional competition held in Bahrain last December was clinched by the exemplary Cloud team from Qatar. Their exceptional performance not only underscores their dedication and proficiency but also exemplifies Qatar’s growing prominence in the global ICT landscape. The team consisted of Hadieh Abdulmajeed and Mohamed Mouemel Abdallahi (Qatar University), and Saba Wynne (University of Doha for Science and Technology).
As a testament to their excellence, the Cloud team from Qatar has earned the privilege to represent the country in the upcoming finals of the Huawei Global ICT Competition. Scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, China in May, this prestigious event will bring together top talents from around the world, providing a platform for networking, learning, and collaboration on a global scale.
This year, the National prize for the Network Track went to the team consisting of Ali Al Mehaizaa (Community College of Qatar), Amna Khatoon, and Saad Ahmad Khan (University of Doha for Science and Technology).
Dr. Hareb Al Jabri, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, also commented, “The ICT Competition serves as a vital platform for students to showcase their skills and creativity. We commend Huawei for their efforts in nurturing ICT talent and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing education and technology in Qatar.”
