WELLINGTON, Oct. 23 – New Zealand and Iceland have agreed to boost bilateral cooperation through new initiatives in taxation, working holidays, and geothermal energy, according to a statement from the New Zealand government.
During his visit to Reykjavik, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters met with Icelandic President Halla Tomasdottir to discuss expanding practical collaboration between the two nations.
Both sides announced plans to negotiate a reciprocal Working Holiday Scheme, allowing young citizens to travel, study, and work in each other’s countries.
In addition, a Double Tax Agreement was signed to promote fair and transparent cross-border business activity and strengthen economic relations. Immigration Minister Erica Stanford said these initiatives mark an important step toward building a more dynamic and mutually beneficial partnership between New Zealand and Iceland.
