PARIS – Oct. 29, 2025 – Two men suspected of involvement in the high-profile jewel heist at the Louvre Museum have been formally placed under investigation and remanded in custody, French broadcaster BFMTV reported Wednesday evening.
The suspects, both in their 30s, were detained on Saturday and have “partially admitted” their role in the crime, Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau said. The stolen jewels, however, remain missing.
One suspect was apprehended at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to board an international flight, and the other was taken into custody shortly afterward in a northern suburb of Paris. Prosecutor Beccuau noted that authorities have not ruled out the involvement of a wider network beyond the four individuals identified on surveillance footage.
Investigators have conducted more than 150 urgent forensic examinations, mobilizing over 100 personnel to locate and recover the missing items. The heist, which occurred on Oct. 19, targeted eight pieces of French crown jewels valued at approximately 88 million euros (102 million U.S. dollars).
The Louvre Museum reopened three days after the theft, reassuring the public while cooperating closely with law enforcement authorities.
Officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and all leads are being pursued to recover the stolen treasures and bring any additional perpetrators to justice.
