Doha, November 6 (QNA) – The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) continues to expand its international engagement through a series of strategic meetings held on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, reaffirming its commitment to advancing global cooperation, training, and capacity-building in the field of human rights.
Her Excellency Maryam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, Chairperson of the NHRC, met with HE Nada Al-Nashif, UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, to explore ways to strengthen collaboration between the Committee and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Discussions covered joint training programs, technical support, and initiatives to enhance national capacities in alignment with Qatar’s human rights and sustainable development priorities.
Al-Attiyah stressed the NHRC’s dedication to deepening its partnership with the UN, praising the OHCHR’s distinguished role in building bridges of cooperation and promoting justice and equality. She commended the success of the UN Training and Documentation Centre in Doha, which continues to play a key role in empowering national institutions through specialized training programs and awareness activities conducted in partnership with the NHRC.
She reiterated that integrating principles of equality, inclusivity, and non-discrimination into all development policies remains central to the Committee’s mission. Qatar’s experience, she noted, has become a regional model of how strong social development policies can directly enhance human rights protection and public participation.
Her Excellency highlighted that the NHRC’s international partnerships have doubled in recent years, reflecting Qatar’s growing influence in supporting human rights dialogues and capacity-building across diverse regions. She further praised Qatar’s role in hosting the Second World Summit for Social Development, describing it as a clear testament to the country’s leadership in global social progress.
Meanwhile, NHRC Secretary-General HE Sultan bin Hassan Al-Jamali met with a Syrian delegation led by officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Social Affairs and Labor to discuss technical cooperation and support for institutional capacity-building in Syria. He reaffirmed the Committee’s readiness to assist in developing independent national human rights institutions in coordination with international partners.
Al-Jamali also held meetings with HE Aihan Jaf, President of the Arab-Euro Center for Human Rights and International Law, and representatives of the Barzani Charity Foundation. The discussions explored partnerships in training, humanitarian response, and protection of vulnerable groups, particularly refugees, displaced persons, women, and children, as well as promoting peace, coexistence, and respect for human dignity worldwide.
