LUANDA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) – African and European leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in peace, security, development, climate action, and migration at the 7th African Union-European Union Summit in Luanda on Tuesday.
Closing the two-day meeting, African Union Chairperson and Angolan President Joao Lourenco said discussions reflected a shared determination to strengthen dialogue and advance practical partnerships between the two continents.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, which has mobilized over €120 billion (about USD 138.8 billion) in investment for Africa since its launch three years ago. The program aims to support local job creation, value-chain development, and strategic industries, including raw-material processing, pharmaceuticals, and regional energy interconnections.
The summit’s joint declaration emphasized support for multilateralism, peaceful conflict resolution, and stronger cooperation in counterterrorism, climate adaptation, green energy, digital transformation, agriculture, and healthcare. Leaders also pledged to boost investment, support Africa’s industrialization, enhance regional integration, and adopt a balanced approach to migration, expanding legal pathways while addressing irregular flows.
A permanent follow-up mechanism will monitor the implementation of summit commitments, ensuring progress across agreed priorities. The next AU-EU Summit is scheduled to take place in Brussels.
