Striking State-run MUST University (MUST) students calls for immediate acceptance of their demands to end ongoing chaos

MIRPUR ( AJK): Dec. 4: Mian Zeeshan, member of MUST University United Forum, joint group of all organizations of the students studying in State-run Mirpur University of Science & Technology Mirpur here Thursday held the MUST University management Mirpur responsibke of turning the university into a junkyard, keeping the students bondage pushing them into bundles ofproblems.

The varsity students, currently on indefinite strike, have warned the varsity management of adopting the future course of action, if their demands are not met within next 24 hours – which, they feared, might throw the varsity in an environment of more chaos.

Addressing press conference along with other student leaders at Kashmir Press Club Mirpur, he emphasised that action was possible despite after a 15-day strike in two departments of the university. “Transport and hostels are facing serious problems, for which no steps are being taken to resolve them”, he blamed.

Lambasting the Varsity’s Director Students Affairs, Zeashan said that the DSA was posing himself as the vice-chancellor of the varsity exercising his self cassumed powers. He demanded immediate dismissel of the DSA from service.

He said that the fee of MUST University hostels was much higher than private hostels and even without any facility. The condition of washrooms and cleanliness is worse. No attention is being paid to such ugly situation”, he blamed.

“Several departments of MUST have not yet been registered and accredited with HEC and resultantly the degrees of the students have not been issued despite pessage of long time”, he said.

Addressing the news conference other student leaders said that they have made all efforts for their demands met for a year reaching to the the authorities, but no attention was paid to this and resultantly they were forced to lock down the varsity staging the protest.

” We did not hijack any system. The DSA is the biggest responsible for this strike, whose job is to act as a bridge between students and the administration, but they are not ready to listen”, the student leaders said. “Those who sare to speak for their rights are sent notices and threatened. This trend is not acceptable. In Mirpur and Jari campuses, we do not have any space for curricular or co-curricular activities. The football ground has been built in a ditch. High rates are being charged for transport services and the condition of these buses was deteriorating”, they alleged.

The student leaders that they have submitted a fourteen-point charter of demand to the management of the Varsity and will not back down from it. Cricising, the student leaders alkeged that the university administration was so incompetent that no one has dared to contact us in four days strike sofar.

They demanded that the notices issued against the students should be withdrawn immediately, the fee structure should be rescheduled and the practice of charging excessive fees should be stopped, facilities should be provided in the hostels.

They further called for revival of the students union in the varsity besides instalation of more benches in the campus.
