Dec. 13 (RKI) — Türkiye has expressed readiness to host renewed peace talks aimed at ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Russian President Vladimir Putin during their meeting in Ashgabat, according to the Turkish Communications Directorate.
The leaders met on the sidelines of the International Peace and Trust Forum in Turkmenistan’s capital, where they discussed bilateral relations and ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Moscow-Kyiv conflict. Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye is closely following the negotiation processes and that progress is possible in areas offering “practical benefits for both sides.”
He noted that “implementing a limited ceasefire, primarily targeting energy facilities and ports, could be beneficial,” underlining Ankara’s support for steps leading to a “just and lasting peace.”
Reiterating Türkiye’s role as a mediator, Erdogan confirmed that Ankara is ready to host talks in all formats, aiming to facilitate constructive dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.
The two leaders also discussed regional issues, including developments in Palestine, Syria, and the South Caucasus peace process.
Türkiye has previously played a key role in facilitating diplomatic initiatives between Moscow and Kyiv, including the 2022 grain corridor agreement, maintaining its position as a trusted mediator capable of engaging both parties.
