AJK IRD announces implementation of Track & Trace System to play key role in enhancing transparency, Govt. Revenue:

MIRPUR ( AJK): Dec. 23 : Azad Jammu Kashmir Inland Revenue Department here Tuesday reiterated its commitment to ensure implementation of the Track and Trace System to play a key role in enhancing transparency, improving tax compliance, and preventing illegal production and smuggling in the tobacco sector, ultimately leading to a significant increase in government revenue and overall improvement in the taxation system, it was officially said.

The meeting, convened at the Committee Room of the Inland Revenue Department, was chaired by Syed Anser Ali, Commissioner Inland Revenue Department,

“The department affirmed the resolve at a high level comprehensive and purposeful meeting was held here via video link (Zoom Conference) regarding the effective and phased implementation of the Track and Trace System (TTS) in the Tobacco / Cigarette Manufacturing Sector in Azad Jammu & Kashmir”,
a spokesperson of the AJK Inland Revenue Department later told our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao here Tuesday.

Addressing yhe meeting, the chair -Commissioner IRD Syed Ansar Ali said that the Inland Revenue Department, Azad Jammu & Kashmir stands fully committed to leveraging modern technology to make the tax system more efficient, transparent, and reliable, thereby ensuring the protection of state revenues and the establishment of a fair and sustainable taxation regime.

The meeting discussed in detail, all technical, operational, administrative, and legal aspects related to the implementation of the Track and Trace System in the tobacco sector of Azad Jammu & Kashmir were discussed in detail.

Representatives of cigarette manufacturing units raised various technical and operational queries, which were comprehensively and satisfactorily addressed by the relevant experts from the Federal Board of Revenue and Authentix. Participants were thoroughly briefed on the system’s technical architecture, operational procedures, implementation phases, and legal requirements.

The meeting concluded with a consensus that the draft Tripartite Agreement would be shared with all concerned stakeholders within the next two to three days. The said agreement shall be executed between the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Authentix, and the concerned Distributor / Party, according to the spokesman.

The meeting decided that the signing ceremony of the Tripartite Agreement would be held shortly at the Federal Board of Revenue Headquarters, Islamabad, with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.

The meeting, attended among others, by Javed Iqbal Tarrar, Project Director Track and Trace System (TTS), representing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Government of Pakistan. Representatives of the proposed licensed Track and Trace service provider AJCL / Authentix / Mitas, including Zafar Masood, Country Head, along with other technical and administrative officials, also participated. In addition, representatives of various tobacco and cigarette manufacturing companies operating in Azad Jammu & Kashmir attended the meeting.

Participants from the Inland Revenue Department included Mr. Syed Ali Asghar, Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue (Excise Circle), Mirpur, Faizullah, Deputy Director (MIS), Sabir Hussain Baloch, Audit Officer, and Chaudhry Azhar Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Inland Revenue, Bhimber, who shared their valuable suggestions, observations, and insights regarding the implementation of the system, the spokesperson added.
