EU Reaffirms Support for Somalia Unity Urges Dialogue

The European Union has reiterated its firm support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, emphasizing that respect for these principles is essential for lasting peace and stability across the Horn of Africa.

In an official statement issued on Saturday, the EU said that Somalia’s unity remains a cornerstone for regional security and political stability, reaffirming its position in line with Somalia’s constitution as well as the charters of the African Union and the United Nations.

The statement followed recent developments concerning Somaliland, underscoring the EU’s long-standing policy of recognizing Somalia as a single, sovereign state. The bloc stressed that any lasting solution to outstanding political issues must be achieved through peaceful and inclusive dialogue.

Encouraging constructive engagement, the EU called on Somaliland and the Federal Government of Somalia to resume meaningful discussions aimed at resolving long-standing differences through dialogue rather than unilateral actions. According to the EU, open communication and mutual understanding are vital to preventing further tensions and ensuring regional stability.

The European Union also reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting Somalia’s peacebuilding efforts, governance reforms, and regional cooperation initiatives. It emphasized that stability in Somalia is closely linked to broader security and development prospects across the Horn of Africa.
