MOSCOW — Russia has welcomed efforts by the United States to steer the Ukraine conflict toward a political and diplomatic resolution, saying such initiatives align with Moscow’s interests, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
Peskov stated that Washington’s attempts to promote a diplomatic framework for resolving the conflict are viewed positively by Russia. He stressed that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through passive measures and requires active, reciprocal engagement from all relevant parties.
“Security is built through dialogue,” Peskov said, adding that Russia remains engaged in discussions with the United States and appreciates Washington’s role in encouraging diplomatic approaches. He emphasized that meaningful progress toward peace depends on coordinated and mutual efforts by all sides involved in the conflict.
The Kremlin spokesman reaffirmed Moscow’s openness to negotiations with the United States, noting that dialogue between the two countries is ongoing. However, he clarified that Russia is not currently holding similar talks with European partners on the issue.
Peskov reiterated that channeling the Ukrainian settlement into a political and diplomatic track serves Russia’s interests and contributes to broader regional and international stability. He underlined that only sustained dialogue, supported by genuine commitment from all stakeholders, can lay the foundation for a lasting resolution to the conflict.
