France is unlikely to accept an invitation from the United States to join an international “Board of Peace” aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict, according to sources close to President Emmanuel Macron.
A source told French broadcaster BFM TV that Paris “does not intend, at this stage, to give a favorable response” to the proposal from US President Donald Trump, citing concerns over the scope of the proposed charter and its implications for the United Nations framework and established multilateral mechanisms.
France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said it is reviewing the draft text and reaffirmed its strong attachment to the UN Charter, describing it as the cornerstone of effective multilateralism based on international law, sovereign equality of states, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
The White House announced the formation of the Board of Peace on Friday, saying it aims to support the implementation of Trump’s plan to end Israel’s war on Gaza, oversee reconstruction efforts, mobilize international resources, and ensure accountability during Gaza’s transition to peace.
The US also announced the establishment of a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, along with executive bodies, to implement the plan’s second phase, according to official statements.
