In alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country’s steadfast commitment to sustainable development, the “Stay Green in Education” initiative, led by Dr. Mirvat Ibrahim, Ambassador of Peace and CEO of Ready Future Consulting for Educational and Technological Services, has emerged as a pioneering model for integrating education, sustainability, and social responsibility. The initiative seeks to cultivate environmental awareness among students, encourage responsible consumption, and empower schools to actively contribute to society through innovative and practical programs.
Launched on World Education Day, the program conducted a series of workshops and lectures in schools such as Pak Shama School and Cambridge International School. Dr. Mirvat Ibrahim emphasized the importance of transforming knowledge into actionable behavior while fostering genuine social responsibility among students, teachers, and staff. The sessions actively engaged students in discussions, exercises, and practical activities, allowing them to connect environmental principles to their daily routines and school life.
The workshops offered practical presentations on sustainability, highlighting the book “The Role of Media Education in Building the Concept of Sustainability”, which underscores the role of media and education in creating an informed, responsible society. Another key discussion focused on Qatar’s digital education strategies as outlined in “Using Communication Technology and the Role of the State of Qatar in Distance Education”, showcasing how technology ensures access to education for all, particularly during times of crisis. These sessions encouraged students to critically analyze environmental issues and explore innovative solutions.
Students were introduced to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on Goal 4, Quality Education, emphasizing its role in building sustainable societies, social justice, and growth opportunities. The sessions also highlighted the importance of Arabic language, Islamic values, and national identity in fostering cultural cohesion and shared values within Qatari society, encouraging students to appreciate their heritage while embracing global perspectives.
Practical sustainability initiatives were further emphasized, including creative models made from recycled tires, demonstrating responsible production and consumption. Students learned how to conserve energy, reduce emissions, and leverage technology to support clean energy adoption. These hands-on exercises reinforced the integration of theory with practice, helping students internalize environmental responsibility.
Beyond environmental education, the program promoted peace, tolerance, and interfaith dialogue. Drawing inspiration from Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned, Dr. Mirvat Ibrahim stressed that education rooted in dialogue and mutual respect fosters a cohesive society, mitigates extremism, and encourages coexistence across cultures and religions. Students participated in role-playing, group discussions, and presentations that highlighted cooperation, empathy, and community engagement, enhancing their understanding of social harmony.
The initiative concluded with the proposal of a school-wide “Green Day,” combining media education, Arabic language, Islamic values, and sustainability workshops. This day aims to transform temporary activities into a sustainable school culture, engaging students as active participants in building a better and greener future while inspiring faculty and staff to integrate sustainability into the curriculum and daily school operations.
Dr. Mirvat Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the Principal Nabila Kakub of Pak Shama School for her unwavering support, highlighting her dedication to promoting sustainability and community engagement. Special thanks were also extended to Ms. Etab, Coordinator of Activities, and Murad Ali Shahid, Head of the Talent Hunt Committee, for their valuable contributions. She also acknowledged the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for instilling the values of volunteering, social responsibility, and giving, which remain the driving force behind Qatar’s sustainable and cohesive development. The initiative sets an inspiring benchmark for combining education, social responsibility, environmental awareness, and peace, positioning Qatar as a global leader in sustainable development, community cohesion, and student empowerment.
