WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has formally announced the establishment of a new “Board of Peace” aimed at addressing international crises in coordination with the United Nations. Speaking during a signing ceremony attended by nearly two dozen world leaders on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, Trump said the initiative would initially focus on Gaza but expand its scope globally.
Trump stated that the board is committed to supporting efforts to demilitarize Gaza, improve governance and contribute to reconstruction. He described the initiative as a platform that could extend beyond the Middle East and take on broader international responsibilities once fully operational.
According to Trump, the Board of Peace will work in partnership with the United Nations. He expressed confidence that collaboration between the new body and the UN could create a unique mechanism for addressing global challenges. While emphasizing the UN’s “tremendous potential,” he also reiterated concerns about its effectiveness in resolving ongoing crises.
Representatives from several countries signed the founding documents of the organization. However, detailed information regarding the board’s mandate, charter and operational structure has not yet been publicly released.
Observers note that questions remain about the scope and authority of the Board of Peace. Trump’s remarks suggest that the body could engage in issues beyond Gaza, potentially positioning itself as a broader diplomatic and reconstruction platform in global affairs.
Further clarification on the board’s structure and objectives is expected in the coming weeks.
