LONDON: A cosmetic doctor who faced backlash for critiquing pop star Troye Sivan’s appearance on TikTok has apologized, saying he “feels terrible” for upsetting the singer but will continue posting content responsibly.
London-based Dr. Zayn Khalid Majeed uploaded a two-minute video highlighting what he described as “problem areas” in Sivan’s face following the singer’s appearance at a recent Australian event. The video suggested cosmetic interventions such as skin boosters and dermal fillers.
Fans quickly criticized the unsolicited advice, and Sivan himself responded with a heartfelt essay on Substack, describing how the video triggered long-held insecurities and even prompted him to consider cosmetic procedures. “I’ve struggled with my body image for a lot of my life,” Sivan wrote, emphasizing the emotional impact of unsolicited critiques from public figures.
Since deleting the video, Majeed reached out to Sivan directly to apologize, acknowledging that the singer’s response was “incredibly raw and vulnerable.” He said he intends to continue sharing content, focusing on positive and responsible messaging, and providing educational advice rather than personal critiques to promote confidence and wellbeing.
Sivan, now 30, began his career as a teenager and is widely regarded as an icon of the “twink” aesthetic, a youthful and slim appearance prominent in gay culture. The incident has sparked wider discussions on social media about body image, consent, and the ethics of cosmetic advice for public figures.
