Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has reaffirmed Ankara’s firm opposition to any military action against Iran, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving tensions. Speaking at a joint press conference in Istanbul alongside Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Fidan said Türkiye consistently rejects external military intervention and supports a peaceful solution led by the Iranian people.
His remarks come amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, following recent US statements and Iranian warnings of retaliation in the event of an attack. Fidan stressed that neither war nor prolonged isolation would benefit the region, warning that renewed conflict would deepen instability already witnessed in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Gaza.
Highlighting Türkiye’s foreign policy principles, Fidan underlined the importance of “regional ownership” in resolving disputes. He noted that stability across the Middle East, the Balkans, and the South Caucasus remains a strategic priority for Ankara. He also called for the resumption of constructive Iran-US nuclear negotiations, saying progress could ease sanctions on Tehran and help integrate Iran into the global economy.
Fidan cautioned that destabilizing actions — particularly efforts to push for military confrontation — could severely damage regional security. He urged all parties to act prudently and return to the negotiating table.
Addressing broader regional matters, the minister reiterated Türkiye’s support for Gaza’s reconstruction under Palestinian leadership and reaffirmed opposition to any violation of Syria’s territorial integrity. He also emphasized continued cooperation between Ankara and Tehran on Iraq’s stability and counterterrorism efforts.
Concluding his remarks, Fidan said the region seeks peace, cooperation, and mutual respect. “Neither deadlock nor war is a solution,” he stated, stressing that sustained dialogue remains the only responsible course forward.
