LONDON, Feb. 19 — Britain’s King Charles III on Thursday expressed “deepest concern” following the reported arrest of his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
In a public statement, the monarch said the matter was being handled by the appropriate authorities and affirmed the royal family’s full cooperation with investigators. He stressed that due process must be followed and that the law should take its course.
Thames Valley Police confirmed that a man in his sixties from Norfolk had been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Several British media outlets identified the suspect as Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew.
Andrew was stripped of his royal and military titles in October last year and vacated Royal Lodge, later relocating to private accommodation. Since then, he has been referred to by his personal name rather than royal designation.
The development has renewed public scrutiny over his past association with the late US financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a connection that has drawn sustained controversy in recent years.
