MOSCOW, Feb. 23 — Russian President Vladimir Putin said the continued development of Russia’s nuclear triad remains an “absolute priority,” describing it as the cornerstone of national security and global strategic balance.
In a video address marking Defender of the Fatherland Day, Putin said the triad — comprising land-based intercontinental missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles and strategic bombers — ensures effective deterrence and safeguards Russia’s sovereignty.
He added that Russia will further strengthen its armed forces by improving combat readiness, operational mobility and the ability to function in complex conditions. Putin also pledged to accelerate research and development of advanced military weapons and equipment to maintain technological superiority.
The president stressed that modernizing strategic forces and equipping troops with next-generation systems will remain central to defense planning, ensuring Russia’s security architecture stays robust amid evolving global threats.
