TEHRAN, Feb. 23 — Iran has dismissed speculation that it is considering an interim nuclear agreement with the United States, reaffirming that any understandings must emerge through formal negotiations.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said reports about a temporary deal have “no basis,” stressing that negotiation details are addressed only at the negotiating table. He reiterated that Iran’s stance on lifting U.S. sanctions and resolving nuclear issues remains consistent, adding that Tehran is fully aware of Washington’s positions.
Baghaei said Iran remains committed to diplomacy but will not relinquish what it considers its legitimate rights. He expressed hope that, if both sides demonstrate goodwill, another round of indirect talks could take place within days.
The anticipated third round of indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington is expected in Geneva later this week. The talks come amid heightened regional tensions and a continued U.S. military presence in West Asia.
Iran has repeatedly stated that meaningful progress depends on sanctions relief and mutual confidence-building measures, while maintaining that its nuclear program is peaceful.
