MOSCOW, Feb 27 : A localized ceasefire around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has enabled the start of urgent repairs to damaged power infrastructure, Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom announced Friday.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said the ceasefire took effect at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time, allowing technical teams to begin restoration work on the plant’s outdoor switchgear and the Ferosplavna-1 transmission line. The facilities were reportedly damaged on February 10 in what Russian officials described as a Ukrainian strike.
According to Rosatom, the repair operation is expected to take at least one week, depending on security conditions and technical assessments at the site.
The ZNPP operator said arrangements for the localized ceasefire were made with the involvement of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to ensure safe access for maintenance crews and stabilize external power supply systems.
Plant officials confirmed that electricity supply to the facility is currently maintained through the remaining Dniprovska power line. Radiation levels at and around the nuclear plant remain within normal limits, and monitoring systems continue to operate safely.
The Zaporizhzhia plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility, has repeatedly faced operational risks since the conflict in Ukraine intensified, raising international concern over nuclear safety.
