ANKARA, March 5 – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss a drone strike that targeted Azerbaijan’s autonomous Nakhchivan region, leaving several people injured.
During the call, President Erdogan strongly condemned the drone attack and expressed solidarity with Azerbaijan. He also conveyed his best wishes to President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people following the incident, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
Earlier, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry reported that drones launched from Iranian territory struck the Nakhchivan exclave. One drone hit the terminal building at Nakhchivan International Airport, causing damage to the facility, while another fell near a school in the village of Shakarabad.
The ministry strongly condemned the attacks, stating that the incident resulted in damage to the airport infrastructure and injuries to civilians.
According to Azerbaijan’s Health Ministry, four people were wounded in the attack. Authorities confirmed that the injured individuals received medical attention and their conditions were reported to be stable.
The incident has raised concerns over regional security following the reported drone strike targeting the strategically located Nakhchivan region.
