BEIJING, March 8 : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that living under continuous instability and war cannot be the destiny of the Palestinian people, emphasizing that sustainable peace requires a just political solution and stronger international efforts.
Speaking on March 8 during a press conference on the sidelines of China’s annual parliamentary sessions, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, addressed questions regarding the Palestinian issue and the current situation in the Middle East.
He said the humanitarian situation in Gaza concerns the minimum standards of international moral responsibility. While international efforts to achieve a ceasefire are welcome, he stressed that more diplomatic work is needed to ensure a lasting ceasefire, advance reconstruction, and reach a comprehensive and durable solution to the Palestinian issue.
Wang Yi reiterated that the only realistic and internationally recognized solution remains the two-state solution, calling on the global community to support this framework rather than undermine it. He emphasized that the United Nations should play a leading role in advancing practical steps toward this objective.
The Chinese foreign minister stressed that Palestinians have the legitimate right to live in peace and pursue development like other nations around the world. As a major global power, China will continue to support the just cause of the Palestinian people and work with the international community to restore their legitimate national rights.
Addressing the situation involving Iran and the broader regional tensions, Wang Yi said China’s position can be summarized in one key principle: preventing war and promoting a ceasefire. He warned that war is a dangerous tool and that the Middle East has already suffered greatly from conflicts that bring no real winners.
He urged an immediate halt to military operations and called on all sides to avoid escalation that could widen the conflict. Respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, he said, must remain fundamental principles for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
