Doha, March 18, 2026: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has strongly condemned the deliberate missile attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran targeting oil facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City, which caused fires and significant damage to a civilian industrial installation.
The Committee warned of the serious human rights implications of these developments. It commended the swift response by the Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities, whose timely actions helped protect lives and ensure public safety.
At the same time, the NHRC expressed deep concern over the continued aggression against the State of Qatar, describing it as a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, relevant international resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and international humanitarian law that prohibits targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The Committee called for the immediate cessation of such attacks, stressing that they threaten international peace and security and undermine fundamental human rights, including the rights to life, health, personal safety, and freedom of movement.
It further highlighted the grave consequences of targeting vital civilian and energy facilities, noting their wider impact on global human rights, including the right to a safe, clean, and sustainable environment and the right to development.
The NHRC urged urgent international action to end these attacks and ensure accountability, and called for an extraordinary session of the UN Human Rights Council to address the repercussions and recommend measures against these violations.
