Iran has denied holding any talks with the United States following remarks by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that “productive conversations” had taken place between the two countries.
According to Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, an informed Iranian source stated that there is “no dialogue” between Tehran and Washington. The source described Trump’s comments as part of an effort to lower energy prices and gain time for military planning, rejecting claims of any ongoing negotiations.
However, the Iranian source acknowledged that some regional countries have presented initiatives aimed at reducing tensions in the region. The source added that Iran did not start the conflict and that any demands regarding de-escalation should be directed towards Washington.
Earlier, Trump announced that he had ordered a five-day postponement of planned US strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, citing what he described as constructive discussions with Iran over the previous two days. He said the delay was based on the tone of the talks and that discussions would continue during the week.
The development comes amid ongoing regional escalation following joint military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran, which has led to continued retaliation, regional tensions, and disruption to global markets and aviation.
