MIRPUR (AJK), March 26 — In a significant move to enhance transparency and accessibility in land administration, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has initiated the computerization of land records across the three districts of Mirpur Division: Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber. The initiative aims to provide quick access to land information and ensure error-free record-keeping, officials said, while also strengthening public confidence in government services and promoting accountability across all administrative levels.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting of revenue officers from all three districts, chaired by Member Board of Revenue Shaukat Yousafzai and Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan. Senior officials from Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber attended in person or via video link, including Deputy Commissioners Raja Muhammad Sadaqat Khan, Raja Imran Shaheen, and Chaudhry Muhammad Tariq, along with Assistant Commissioners, Tehsildars, and other departmental staff.
The meeting reviewed ongoing projects including the computerization of land records, phase three of the Land Record Management Information System, price control, recovery of government funds, revenue court cases, and natural disaster-related land issues. Instructions were given to ensure complete transparency and accuracy in land record management, leaving no scope for discrepancies.
Member Board of Revenue Shaukat Yousafzai emphasized that the computerization project is a major initiative requiring professionalism and diligence from all revenue officers and staff. He instructed that monthly progress reports on land transfers, individual ownership, Jumabandi, Khushra Gurdwara, and other transactions be submitted to the Board. He also stressed proper recording of land-related activities to prevent disputes among citizens.
Deputy Commissioners presented progress reports and highlighted challenges, while discussions also covered IT support, cybersecurity, and additional operational needs such as vehicles for Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars.
Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan directed officials to expedite the computerization process, regularly verify records at Land Record Centers, and correct errors before uploading. He stated that the digitization aims to simplify access for citizens, reduce administrative delays, eliminate the need for repeated visits to Patwar Khanas, and prevent tampering of records. The IT Center plays a key role in ensuring the system is transparent, reliable, and maintains public trust.
He further instructed strict compliance with all Board of Revenue guidelines and legal requirements related to land record computerization, underscoring the government’s commitment to modernizing land administration in AJK and making governance more citizen-friendly and efficient.
