WASHINGTON, March 26 — U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has extended the pause on planned strikes targeting Iranian energy facilities by 10 days, saying ongoing talks between the two sides are progressing positively.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the delay would last until April 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, following what he described as a request linked to ongoing diplomatic contacts. He added that discussions were continuing and dismissed media reports suggesting otherwise.
Indirect contacts between the United States and Iran are reportedly being conducted through intermediaries, including Pakistan. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said messages have been exchanged between the two sides in recent days.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed that messages had been exchanged through intermediaries, while reiterating that Tehran has held no direct talks with Washington since the United States and Israel launched major attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.
Tensions had escalated after Washington warned Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face possible strikes on energy infrastructure, with Iran warning it would retaliate across the region if attacked.
