The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed the death of its Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri, who succumbed to severe injuries sustained while performing operational duties, according to an official statement released in Tehran on Monday.
In a statement published by Sepah News, the IRGC expressed condolences over what it described as Tangsiri’s “martyrdom,” stating that he was injured while overseeing efforts to strengthen Iran’s defensive capabilities along key islands and coastlines reportedly targeted by hostile forces. The statement praised his leadership, noting that naval forces had delivered significant blows to U.S. and Israeli facilities under his command.
Earlier reports from Israeli sources claimed that Tangsiri was killed in an airstrike targeting an Iranian naval facility in Bandar Abbas. However, Iranian authorities stated that he later died due to the severity of his injuries.
The IRGC emphasized that the commander’s death would not affect its naval operations or its control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Tangsiri had been serving as IRGC naval commander since 2018.
