Russia on Tuesday accused the United States and Israel of attempting to undermine normalization efforts between Iran and its regional neighbors. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for dismissing international law, highlighting Washington’s role in escalating tensions.
Speaking at the Russian Council on International Affairs in Moscow, Lavrov said the U.S. and Israel are attempting to turn Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members against Iran. He rejected claims that Iran sought an excuse to attack its neighbors and emphasized that military action against civilians or civilian infrastructure is unacceptable.
Lavrov noted that Moscow is ready to assist all parties in resolving the conflict through diplomacy and called for an immediate cessation of U.S. and Israeli aggression. He framed the current crisis as part of a broader global struggle for leadership, warning that the restructuring of world order risks instability unless addressed responsibly.
On relations with the West, Lavrov described them as being in the most severe crisis, stating that Russia remains open to dialogue but will not pursue Western initiatives indiscriminately.
Russia’s comments underscore Moscow’s growing role in the Middle East and its push for a multipolar world order.
