Egypt has stepped up diplomatic contacts with the United States and regional countries to help reduce rising tensions in the Middle East, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a series of phone calls with senior international and regional officials, including U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and foreign ministers from several Gulf and regional countries. He also spoke with Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
During the discussions, Egypt stressed the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and restraint to avoid further escalation and maintain regional stability. Abdelatty warned that continued tensions could lead to serious economic and geopolitical consequences, including risks to global food and energy security.
Officials agreed on the need for continued coordination and diplomatic engagement in the coming period to prevent further escalation and protect regional and international peace.
Regional tensions have increased following recent military developments involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, raising concerns about wider instability in the Middle East.
