Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has begun the main phase of evacuating its staff from Iran, including personnel working at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, officials said.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev stated that a total of 198 employees are being transported by bus toward the Iranian-Armenian border as part of the evacuation plan. He expressed hope that the staff would safely cross Iran within two to three days and return to Russia.
He added that Iranian authorities are taking significant measures to ensure the safety of the evacuation route, while coordination with the Armenian government is also proceeding smoothly. The evacuated staff are expected to depart the region via Yerevan airport in Armenia.
Earlier, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization reported that a projectile struck an area near the Bushehr nuclear facility, resulting in the death of a security worker. The Bushehr nuclear power plant, developed with Russian cooperation, has been supplying electricity since 2011, with further expansion agreements signed between Iran and Russia in 2014.
