The United States and Iran have received a new peace proposal aimed at ending ongoing hostilities, but Tehran has rejected reopening the Strait of Hormuz immediately, according to media reports on Monday.
The development came after U.S. President Donald Trump warned of serious consequences if an agreement was not reached within the stated timeline. The proposed framework, reportedly prepared by Pakistan, outlines a two-stage plan beginning with an immediate ceasefire followed by a comprehensive peace agreement to be finalized within 15 to 20 days.
A senior Iranian official said Tehran would not accept fixed deadlines while reviewing the proposal and added that Washington had not yet guaranteed a permanent ceasefire.
Meanwhile, U.S. news outlet Axios reported that the United States, Iran, and regional mediators were also discussing a possible 45-day ceasefire as part of a broader two-phase agreement aimed at ending the conflict and reducing regional tensions.
