Brussels, April 7 – The European Union on Tuesday urged maximum restraint and full adherence to international law amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, firmly rejecting any threats targeting critical civilian infrastructure.
Speaking at a press briefing, Anitta Hipper stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable solution to the crisis. She warned that attacks on civilian infrastructure could have severe humanitarian consequences and further destabilize the region and beyond.
“The EU calls for maximum restraint, protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and full respect for international law and international humanitarian law by all parties,” Hipper said, reiterating the union’s consistent position.
Her remarks came as tensions surged following U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning that Iran could be “taken out” in a single night if it failed to meet the set deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The EU emphasized that any escalation risks catastrophic humanitarian and regional consequences, urging all actors to prioritize dialogue, negotiation, and civilian protection to prevent a wider conflict.
