Doha, April 08 (QNA) – The State of Qatar has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as an important initial step toward de-escalation and reduction of regional tensions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the urgent need to build on this development to prevent further escalation and promote stability across the region. The ministry expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts led by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, particularly acknowledging the role of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with all parties involved in facilitating the agreement.
Qatar underscored the importance of full adherence to the ceasefire, noting that sustained commitment would help consolidate the truce and create favorable conditions for constructive dialogue. The ministry also stressed the need for Iran to immediately cease all hostile actions that could undermine regional security and to respect the sovereignty of other states.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted the critical importance of ensuring the security of maritime routes, safeguarding freedom of navigation, and maintaining the uninterrupted flow of international trade in accordance with international law.
Reaffirming its position, Qatar reiterated its strong support for diplomatic solutions and peaceful engagement, stressing that meaningful dialogue, respect for international law, and good neighborly relations remain essential for resolving crises and maintaining global stability.
