Beijing April 13 – Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Monday vowed to expand China’s role in promoting peace and stability in the Gulf during talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Beijing.
Li Qiang said China is ready to play a more constructive role in advancing peace and supporting regional stability. The meeting was held at the invitation of the Chinese Premier amid tensions in the Middle East.
According to state media Xinhua Li said China has maintained close communication with relevant parties since the conflict began and remains committed to promoting peace through diplomatic means.
He emphasized China will continue supporting efforts to reduce tensions and encourage dialogue among regional stakeholders.
Li also expressed hope that the United Arab Emirates will ensure the safety of Chinese citizens institutions and projects operating in the country.
The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s visit comes amid regional tensions following the conflict that began on February 28. UAE defense authorities said Iranian attacks have caused casualties since the escalation.
Separately the United States and Iran agreed last week to a two week ceasefire. However direct talks in Islamabad on Saturday ended without agreement highlighting ongoing diplomatic challenges in the region.
