MIRPUR (AJK), April 16: Mirpur Division Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan and Deputy Inspector General of Police Range Mirpur Dr Khalid Mahmood Chohan on Thursday issued strict instructions to all concerned state institutions to urgently address electricity outages, civic negligence, and pending public complaints across the three districts of Mirpur Division.
The directives were issued during a high-level meeting attended by Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Sajid Hussain, SSP Khurram Iqbal, Director Planning Development Authority Kaleem Ahmed Jaral, Superintending Engineer Sardar Mubashir Sarfaraz Khan, Forest officers, Municipal Corporation Chief Officer Raja Shiraz Ahmed Khan, Agriculture and Highways department officials, and other senior representatives.
Addressing the meeting, the Commissioner and DIG said that recent global developments have contributed to economic pressure across several countries, including Pakistan. They noted that the shortage of furnace oil has intensified the electricity crisis in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, urging public patience and cooperation during the difficult period.
They emphasized that Pakistan’s role in supporting diplomatic efforts to stabilize the international situation remains significant. They expressed hope that improvements in global conditions would help ease current economic and energy challenges.
The officials said the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government is providing electricity at subsidized rates and working to ensure uninterrupted supply despite constraints. They added that coordination between civil administration and field departments must be strengthened to improve response time and ensure quick resolution of complaints at the local level.
They reiterated that Mirpur, being an important industrial and overseas-linked city, requires special focus on cleanliness, infrastructure improvement, and civic management.
The meeting also directed departments concerned to achieve 100 percent results in the ongoing national tree plantation campaign. The Development Authority was instructed to undertake plantation work along major roads, including from Y-cross to Mangla, while similar efforts were ordered across the district with public participation.
The Municipal Corporation was instructed to immediately improve sanitation services, waste management, and overall city cleanliness. Authorities were also directed to ensure effective maintenance of street lights and public infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with a call for coordinated efforts among all departments to resolve public grievances on priority and ensure visible improvement in civic services across Mirpur Division.
