TEHRAN, April 16: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said Thursday that achieving a truce in Lebanon is as important for Tehran as the ceasefire reached in Iran, according to IRNA.
In a phone call with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Qalibaf said Iran is continuing peace efforts with the United States in Pakistan and subsequent diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing a lasting ceasefire across conflict zones in West Asia, including Lebanon.
He said Iran has not forgotten its “Lebanese brothers” and is closely monitoring developments in Lebanon while supporting efforts to achieve stability and halt hostilities.
Berri briefed Qalibaf on the situation in southern Lebanon, saying Israeli strikes continue and describing the actions as “crimes.” He also claimed Israel aims to displace Lebanese civilians, stating more than 1.2 million people have been forced from their homes.
According to earlier reports, Iran, the United States and Israel reached a ceasefire on April 8 after 40 days of fighting. Iran–US talks in Islamabad later did not produce a broader agreement to end the conflict.
Iran maintains that any sustainable ceasefire framework should also extend to Lebanon as part of a wider regional settlement.
