Iran is pursuing an end to its conflict with the United States in a manner that preserves national dignity, President Masoud Pezeshkian said, while firmly rejecting external pressure over Tehran’s nuclear rights.
Speaking during a visit to the Sports and Youth Ministry, Pezeshkian criticized remarks by Donald Trump, stating that Washington has no authority to deny Iran its legitimate nuclear entitlements. He questioned the basis of such demands, asking what wrongdoing Iran had committed to justify restrictions.
The Iranian president emphasized that his country does not seek escalation, but is acting in self-defense. He urged national unity and resilience, calling on citizens to remain steadfast while avoiding any portrayal of Iran as a proponent of war.
Referring to recent developments, Pezeshkian highlighted Iran’s broader stance of engagement and openness, while also acknowledging symbolic moments of national significance.
Tensions escalated earlier this year when the United States and Israel launched coordinated military actions on Feb. 28, prompting retaliatory strikes by Iran targeting Israel and regional locations hosting U.S. forces. However, hostilities have since eased following a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with recent talks between Washington and Tehran held in Pakistan aimed at securing a long-term resolution. Further negotiations are expected in Islamabad as both sides explore pathways toward sustainable peace.
