MIRPUR (AJK), April 23 — Alumni of the historic Government Post Graduate College Mirpur are set to award scholarships worth over Rs. 1.7 million to 124 talented students at their annual gathering scheduled for May 10, 2026. The initiative aims to support deserving students in continuing their higher education without financial barriers.
The scholarship amount marks a significant increase compared to last year, reflecting the growing commitment of alumni toward academic excellence and student welfare. The announcement was made by the Old Saroshian Union, the representative body of former students of the college.
The annual event will be held at the college auditorium, Justice (R) Muhammad Yunus Sarkhvi Hall, and is expected to attract a large number of alumni from across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as those based in different parts of Pakistan and abroad. Senior officials, educationists, and former graduates serving in various sectors are also likely to attend. The gathering is also expected to serve as a platform for networking, collaboration, and discussion on educational development initiatives.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Old Saroshian Union, chaired by its president, Professor Muhammad Zaheer Chaudhry. The meeting was attended by prominent alumni, including former Chief Justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Muhammad Azam Khan, along with several distinguished members from academic, administrative, and media backgrounds. Participants appreciated the continued efforts of the alumni body in promoting education and supporting students in need.
An administrative and reception committee has been formed to ensure the successful organization of the event, with additional sub-committees to be constituted in the coming days. Organizers emphasized that the annual gathering not only serves as a reunion of alumni but also reinforces their commitment to supporting current students and strengthening the institution’s legacy.
The Old Saroshian Union has invited alumni from around the world to participate in the event and contribute actively toward the development of the college and the welfare of its students. The initiative highlights the vital role of alumni networks in promoting education, fostering mentorship, and empowering future generations.
Speakers also underscored that such collective efforts help bridge the gap between past and present students, ensuring continuity in academic excellence and institutional pride. The union reaffirmed its resolve to further expand scholarship programs in the coming years to benefit a greater number of students.
