An Iranian delegation is expected to arrive in Islamabad later tonight, Pakistani sources said, as efforts continue to revive a second round of talks with the United States.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to lead a small negotiating team. Sources added that a US logistics and security team is already present in the federal capital, indicating possible preparations for high-level engagement.
Iran’s state media described the visit as part of a broader regional tour, including Muscat and Moscow, aimed at holding bilateral consultations and reviewing regional developments.
The development follows a recent phone call between Ishaq Dar and Araghchi, during which both sides discussed the ceasefire and Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts to facilitate US-Iran engagement. Pakistan stressed sustained dialogue to advance regional peace, while Tehran appreciated Islamabad’s facilitation role.
Officials said both sides agreed to remain in close contact.
The first round of direct US-Iran talks was held in Islamabad on April 11–12 after a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire, ending without agreement but avoiding a breakdown.
Progress toward a second round remains uncertain due to ongoing tensions, including Iran’s stance over the Strait of Hormuz and the US blockade of Iranian ports.
Pakistan has stepped up diplomatic efforts in recent days to bring both sides back to negotiations despite delays.
