The United Arab Emirates has announced its decision to withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the broader OPEC+, according to the state-run Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The withdrawal will take effect on May 1, 2026. Officials said the move aligns with the UAE’s long-term strategic and economic vision and reflects ongoing development of its energy sector.
The report added that the decision underscores the country’s commitment to maintaining its role as a responsible and reliable energy producer while adapting to the future dynamics of global energy markets.
The UAE joined OPEC in 1967 and has since been considered one of the group’s key oil-producing members. The announcement marks a significant development for the organization, which coordinates oil production policies among major exporting countries.
The UAE emphasized that its energy strategy will continue to focus on sustainability, diversification, and strengthening its global market position.
