Trade ministers from the G7 have warned against rising economic coercion and nonmarket practices, pledging coordinated efforts to strengthen global supply chain resilience and protect economic security, according to Anadolu Agency.

In a joint statement issued after their meeting in Paris on May 5–6, the ministers highlighted concerns over “nonmarket policies and practices,” citing persistent market distortions, structural excess capacity, and harmful spillover effects impacting both global and domestic markets. They also pointed to growing economic dependencies that could increase vulnerability to external pressure.

The ministers emphasized the need to address practices such as opaque industrial subsidies and forced technology transfers, while expressing concern over “economic coercion,” including arbitrary export restrictions that risk disrupting critical supply chains. They pledged to work closely with international partners to reduce such dependencies and prevent the weaponization of trade relationships.

Stress was placed on the importance of resilient and diversified supply chains, particularly in strategic sectors like critical technologies and minerals. Ministers warned that supply chains for critical minerals remain highly concentrated and exposed to disruption and market manipulation.

Proposed measures under discussion include enhanced transparency and traceability, diversification strategies, joint procurement tools, and pricing safeguards. The group also called for constructive engagement at the World Trade Organization to advance meaningful reforms and reinforce rules-based global trade.
